Cricut Stationary Box

I've always loved stationary since I was a little kid.  Before the days of computers and email and twitter, I would love buying new stationary and writing letters to my grandmother and my friend Rob (who I now happen to be married to).  Even though now adays I tend to text or email everyone, I still long for those days when I would put pen to paper and pour out the days events.  Recently due to finanacial difficulties one of my best friends in Vermont was forced to let both the phone and internet go.  So I decided to make a box of stationary using my Cricut so that we can still keep in touch between my trips up there.

I began by taking my Cricut Tags Bags Boxes and More cartridge and using my fit to page feature cut a Matchbox 2.  It ends up being an 8.5" size.  This size will hold stationary pages that are 5.5" x 8.25".

Next I added some dividers to hold the notecards and envelopes I made as well as a slot for a pen and stamps.  The dividers are 2.5" x 5.75 and 2.5" x 5 5/8".  Dividers were scored in the center and then at 1/4" from each end.  Full size stationary rests on top of the dividers.

To create the cover for the box I took two pieces of acetate and glued them together using red tape.  I then scored and folded the acetate and wrapped it around the box leaving a little extra room to make it easier to get the base box out.

To finish off the box I added some ribbon and a tag using the same stamp as the stationary.

Wedding Favor Thank You Gift

I pulled this together very easily and quickly.  I needed a thank you gift to give out at a crop where I will be doing massages.  It's very important for my clients to drink a bottle of water after a massage therapy treatment.  Since it is a crop that I am working at I thought I would decorate bottles of water in true ScrappinGalz style. 

BUT...This would make a great wedding favor as well at a summer wedding.  After so much food and drink and dancing at a summer wedding I'm always parched on my drive home.  And how cool is it when you can make a wedding favor very cheaply?  I get full cases of water for about 4.99 at Walmart.

For this project i used the SU Curley label punch and stamp set.  But you could make this wedding favor with the Cricut and a simple Thank You Stamp as well.  Cricut's Accent Essentials Cartridge has a similar accent, and the Cricut Wedding Cartridge has some bells that you could use as an accent and then you could just stamp the Thank you on the bells.

Cricut Wild Card Cartridge - Owl Birthday Card

Today I wheeled and dealed and sold my old surround sound/DVD system and took the money and bought the Cricut Wild Card Cartridgewith the proceeds!  I've been eyeing this Cricut Wild Card Cartridge for a long time now.  Once I got home I couldn't wait to try it out.  I was suprised and very happy to find out that this cartridge is super easy to use.  But as with anything there are a few tips for this cartridge that will make your life easier

• Use the fit to page feature and always cut your envelope first.  Once the Cricut calculates the size of the envelope write down the size on a piece of paper (there is nothing worse than forgetting the size 5 minutes down the road)
• Don't use cardstock type of patterned paper for the envie liners.  It's just too think and makes it hard for the card to fit into the envie in the end.
• I didn't like using the scorepal to score these envelopes and cards.  The scores were just too thick.  This is a personal preference thing, but I found using the scoring insert with my provocraft paper cutter made a better score.
• If you are using the blackout feature to create a blank inside of the card, adhere the inside and outside of the card together before scoring.

Recipe:  TLC Light Blue Cardstock, SU Chocolate Chip and Kiwi Kiss and Basic Black from Michaels

 

Use a strong adhesive such as ATG tape to put the envelope together.  Do not tack down the sides to tight to allow room for the card to be slipped into the envie.

For the inside of the card I used the blackout feature and the CS was SU Kiwi Kiss

This owl card took me about 10 minutes from start to finish to create.  I did pick out my cardstock prior to timing.

Cricut Door Hanger

Let me begin by saying I have a 13 year old, and like most 13 year olds, she has a difficult time knowing when to clean her room.  Some days I feel like a broken record.  So after thinking about it I came up with this solution; a door hanger that will tell her when her room is clean and when it needs to be looked after.

For this project I used three cricut cartridges:  Tag, Bags Boxes and More and A Walk in My Garden, and Street Sign font cartridge.

For the CLEAN side:

For the door hanger I set my cricut to 10 1/2 inches and cut a basic door hanger from TBBM cartridge.  The hanger has both a circle for the door knob to go thru as well as a slit in it (don't know what the slit is for but I covered it anyway so it doesn't matter).  If you don't want the slit in it, cut the door hanger in blackout and then use the centerpointe function to cut a 2 34 inch hole at the top.  But I think its easier to just cover the slit.

Then I took out the WIMG cartridge and cut flowers of varying sizes and shapes.  I used cornflower, daisy and the pansy.  For the pansy I punched out the center and then offset it over a one size larger center (shift key) using a pop dot.  My daughter likes bright colors and prints so I mixed and matched papers and patterns.  She really liked that I added a little bling to the flowers with some glitter paper.

For the lettering I used 1 1/2" letters in Street Sign Font.

For the DIRTY side:

I strictly used the Street Sign cartridge for this side.

For the lettering I used 2" letters (yes I know its bigger...easier to see it with my dear...hehehe)

Then I cut a blackout 3" railroad sign (a circle) and I cut out a colon and a parenthasis at the 2" setting for the eyes and the mouth.

This project took all of about a half an hour once as I had already figured out what sizes to use prior to my starting.  It was quick and easy and I am hoping it saves me from going stark raving mad and ending up in a rubber room (although if it was a room filled with rubba...ie stamps...it might not be so bad)
