Christmas Cards

Ok -  yes I know that we just finished Christmas season, but I got in my Stampin Up Sleigh Bells Ring set on Friday (ordered it back in December when it went on sale) and just had to play with it right away.  And since I am doing stamp to spend, I thought I should make at least enough cards to cover my costs of the order (check out the sidebar to see how I am doing).  I made 24 cards in total.  My first three were samples to figure out which one I liked best.  Two came out better than the rest, but I ended up choosing the one below with the scalloped oval as my main card.

 

Recipe:

• Cardstock:  SU Very Vanilla, Always Artichoke, Cranberry Crisp
• Ink: Cranberry Crisp

• Ribbon:  SU Chocolate Chip

I started out by stamping the 1.5x4 Very Vanilla with the holly berry stamp, then I used my cricut to cut out ovals to stamp the sleigh scene on and adhered it to a Nestie cut scallop oval.  The sentiment from CTMH says This season the best gift of all... is your friendship (stamped on the inside). I also stamped the holly berry on all the envelopes and colored them in.

 I really like the Currier and Ives feel of the card.  I am happy with the clean lines too.  I now have all my Christmas Cards ready and waiting to be sent out the day after Thanksgiving.  Whoo hoo for once I am ahead.  LOL

Cricut Christmas Ornament

While surfing online, I saw the cutest little ornament but didn't want to spend $ buying the kit when I had my trusty cricut sitting right next to me just waiting for me to do my next project.  The ornament looked pretty easy to make so I pulled out all my cartridges and lo and behold I had everything I needed right on my Accent Essentials Cricut Cartridge! 

For this project you will need patterned cardstock, matching solid cardstock, 8 pop dots per ornament, a picture that you would like to use for the ornament cropped to 2 1/2" square, and a 6" piece of ribbon per ornament.

                                

I started out by cutting a 3" scalloped square in a patterned cardstock and used the window button on my cricut, then I cut out a 3 1/2" rounded corner square in a matching cardstock and punched two holes at the top to run the ribbon through.

I started assebling the pieces by placing a pop dot at each of the four corners of the window of the scalloped square, then i placed the photo on top of the pop dots.

                                       

Next I placed another four pop dots on top of the photo above the original pop dots, and then placed the solid cardstock on top.  I mounted the photo square slightly lower on the solid cardstock in order to accomodate the ribbon for my picture.

   

Simple and quick these make a terrific inexpensive Christmas present.  I put a little note on the back of each telling the place and year the photo was taken.  Now my DD can have a scrapbook on her tree when she has her first tree when she grows up!

Cricut Christmas Box

I made another Cricut box and thought I would share it with you.

For this project you will need the Cricut Tags Bags Boxes and More Cartridge (set on 5 ½ inches), a 12x12 piece of cardstock (I used double sided to get the two colors) and a matching 12x12 piece of patterned paper.  This project can be made using the original Cricut or the Cricut Expression.  Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

First cut a Cricut Matchbox 1 with a window and the Cricut Matchbox 2.  Then cut a Matchbox 1 on the piece of patterned paper.

Cut 1/8 inch from each side of the PP Matchbox 1.  Adhere to the cardstock Matchbox 1.  Score and fold along lines. Be very careful when scoring and folding as this can – to be blunt – screw up the whole box.  Trust me; I did two Matchbox 2’s for this project.

  

Cut and adhere acetate to inside of card.  Fold and adhere Matchbox 1.  Fold and adhere Matchbox 2 (bottom). 

For the tag I cut a 3 ¼” Rounded 3 tag from the window cut (leftover) from the Matchbox 1.  I then cut a tree out of the patterned paper and used pop dots.  I stamped the sentiment using SU Lots of Thoughts and added a simple white ribbon.

 

Fill the box with your favorite homemade candy or some simple tea lights.  If you make this Cricut box larger you could put some notecards in it for a wonderful Christmas present.
