Travel Journal

This coming weekend DD and I are heading to Philadelphia to soak up all the historical sights.  Most of the historical sites are run by the National Parks Department and they have a wonderful junior ranger program for the kids to help them not only understand more but also learn to love history.  You can download the junior ranger program books at their website.

DD loves history, collecting items and tickets and traveling in general, so I thought I would surprise her with a travel journal that she can take with her on our trip.  For this project I used my Zutter Bind it All, some scrap chipboard from the back of office note pads (donated by my office).  For the covers, I created some paper piecings with Quick Kutz cookie cutter dies (USA Collection) and used some stickers.  The blue cardstock on the front cover is actually a page in itself and can become a border for her scrapbook page that she does on Philly should she want to use it.

                                    

On the inside of this is the ranger program book with all the activities she needs to complete in order to get her ranger badge.  I also created and added some journaling pages as well as a pocket page for tickets, brochures and anything else she will be collecting on this trip.

                                            

I hope she enjoys it as much as I did putting it together for her.

CKC Manchester 2008

Wow it feels like forever since I have posted.  This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to CKC in Manchester.  I was a complete crazy woman and took 8 classes from Thursday thru Saturday, with 5 back to back on Saturday.  I have no idea why I did it.  Not alot of technique classes or learning of anything new, which bummed me out just a bit.   I really do wish CK could get more technique classes on the program.  Many of my fellow CKC's mentioned the same thing.

Of all the classes I took, four really stood out from the pack. 

In one class presented by AwesomeAlbums.com was a Rolodex family album.  I had never made one before but I am now hooked.  I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was.  After class I visited their booth and found their Rolodex bases were cheaper than the office supply stores.  They also had precut 4x4 rotary page file pages in packages of three complimentary colors.  I can definitely see this becoming this year's Christmas gift to the extended family!

Another class that I loved was Technique Tuesday's Color Class.  I got the opportunity to work with their chipboard, which they call "tiles" for the first time.  The tile I used was Fundamentals of Flowers.  The average package that you can buy at the LSS has two 12x12 tiles along with pop outs.  Each of the 12x12 tiles is different in the package.  This layout was made with one of the tiles.  We used chaulk ink to color most of the chipboard and then stamped on the chip board.  The stamp set we used went perfectly with it.  I wish I could show you the detail that the stamp set gave to the flowers.  I was very impressed with Jamie the instructor.  The nice thing about this class is that TT gave you so much product that there was enough left over to complete another layout.  That, along with the inks and stamps and stamp block we received, made this class well worth the money.  I will definately be taking a TT class again.

The other two classes that were really great were Strano Designs (a Crop for Healing Sponsor) Flower Gardening class.  I was able to try out a new fiber heat tool which was very cool.  It cut and fused the ribbon all at the same time, eliminating fraying.  I also learned how to make flowers out of ribbon, and completed a ribbon flower with a place for a hidden photo.  The other wonderful class I took was the Ultimate Teacher's Gift class presented by Mary Francis Fabbri of  Scrapbooker Online (a Crop for Healing Sponsor). This was a flip book calendar for those favorite teachers in your child's life.  Lots of ribbon and shapes.  I'll be making another one for my DD's other teachers.

If you ever have the chance, get to CKC.  Its a blast.  I have alot more items I purchased and will get those put together and up for you as soon as I can.

 

CKC or Bust!

Tonight I head over to CKC Manchester for a wonderful weekend of shopping, taking classes, seeing old friends and making some new ones.  I am very excited to be taking not only one but three classes with Sue Neal from Paper Crafts Magazine.  I have taken a class with her before and she is a wonderful teacher.  Initially I did not sign up for many classes, but I am hoping to pick up a couple this evening when I head up to pick up my tickets.  So many classes so little time.  I will be posting pictures when I return, so check back on Monday for an update.  Until then

Finally Unblocked

Well for over a week I have been dealing with cardmakers block. No matter what I was putting together it looked so bad I threw it out.  It was so frustrating.  I don't know what was causing it but I am really glad it seems to be over.  Tonight I finally made my first card in what seems like forever.  I am hoping to make some more since I seem to be on a roll.

So here she is....May I present Eloise Greengrass ...I think this would be a cute out of the ordinary baby girl card.

                                    

I used Stamping Bella's Eloise Greengrass and A Star is Born stamps, Stazon Ink in Black, Papertrey Ink's Berry Sorbet Cardstock and a TLC cardstock scrap that I had laying around (sorry I don't know the name, for the patterned paper I used Papertrey Ink's Pink Patterns Collection.  I also used my cuttlebug fancy photo corners and a white organdy ribbon.  The size of the white cardstock in the middle is 3 x 3 5/8.  I colored her in using Prisma pencils and stickled her wings.  I hope you enjoy.  Its great to be back!

                                           

Crop for Healing 2008

Crop for Healing is a three day crop to benefit the Healing Garden - a Breast Cancer Support Community - in Harvard, Massachusetts.  In the two years of its existance, CFH has been able to donate over $10,000 to this wonderful organization.

The Healing Garden provides, complimentary therepeutic services to women with breast cancer regardless of their financial situation.  Services include, support groups, psychological counseling, yoga, therepeutic massages, reiki, gardening therapy and seminars.  You can read more about the healing garden at www.healinggarden.net.

                                           

There are only 10 spaces left for this crop which takes place in Boston on Oct 24-26, 2008 in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard at the Constitution Inn.  Cost of the three day crop is $165 with approximatly 90% going straight to the Healing Garden.  Breakfast and Dinners are included in the crop and there is a full kitchen available to cook any other snack or meal in.  There is a grand prize drawing on Saturday night.  Last year's grand prize was a Cricut Machine as well as a Cuttlebug Machine.
